❓ What Is Panchang?
Panchang (पंचांग) literally means "five limbs" — the five key daily parameters in Vedic astrology:
1. Tithi — Lunar Day
The angle between the Sun and Moon divided into 30 equal parts. Each tithi carries a specific energy quality. Today: Panchami (5).
2. Nakshatra — Lunar Mansion
The 27 lunar mansions through which the Moon travels. Today's Moon is in Swati Pada 3. This governs mood and the type of activities that are most supported.
3. Yoga — Combined Sun-Moon Angle
The sum of Sun and Moon longitudes creates 27 yogas, ranging from very auspicious (Siddhi, Shiva) to inauspicious (Vyatipata, Vaidhriti). Today: Indra.
4. Karana — Half-Day Unit
Half of a Tithi (~6 hours). There are 11 Karanas cycling through the month, used to pick optimal activity timings. Today: Chatushpada.
5. Vaar — Weekday
Each day of the week is ruled by a planet: Sunday (Sun), Monday (Moon), Tuesday (Mars), Wednesday (Mercury), Thursday (Jupiter), Friday (Venus), Saturday (Saturn).
